Mogadishu, 6 September 2026 — The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Federal Government of Somalia officially launched the National Newborn Care Guidelines, bringing together health authorities, WHO, UNICEF, civil society organizations, universities, and health partners.
The guidelines provide evidence-based standards for health workers to ensure consistent, quality newborn care across health facilities. The initiative aims to reduce preventable newborn deaths and improve care during the first 28 days of life.
